God Almighty has revealed Himself to us in twelve separate revelations of His name. As you will see by reviewing His names, and the explanations, each revelation will give birth to the next, ultimately drawing us into a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. We can't even imagine how bright His presence is, or how much He loves us, but we can try by learning more about Him. It is important to have the right concept of Who God Is and how He wants to be everything to us, so our personal, intimate relationship with Him can be enlightened in looking to Him - through faithful Prayer - as our Provider of every area of our lives:

1. Elohim: God, Our Creator (Genesis 1:1)

The first revelation God gives is that He is Elohim, as recorded in the Hebrew text. This name is always connected to creation, authority, power, greatness, dominion and glory. Indeed, in Genesis 1, we find the words "and God said..." "and God said..." "and God said...", repeatedly, and in each instance it is the plural form of Elohim. God presents Himself with the plural name of Elohim to His creation and the angels. "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Gen. 1:26).

2. Jehovah: My Father (Genesis 2:7)

Whereas, the name of Elohim presents God's existence, we see His personality revealed in the name Jehovah. This name is associated with covenant relationship, fellowship, and blood sacrifice. You and I have this privilege of covenant relationship as believers because of the work of the cross, which allows us to experience the intimate father-to-child fellowship that comes as a result of having a personal, covenant relationship with the God Jehovah.

3. Jehovah El Shaddai: My Supply (Genesis 17:4)

God revealed Himself to Abram as Jehovah El-Shaddai. The Lord appeared to Abram at 99 years of age, and said "I Am the Almighty God; walk before Me and be though perfect and I will make My covenant between Me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly." God's promise was about to be fulfilled, "Thou shalt be a father of many nations..." When Abraham was an old man, and Sarah's womb was dead, God fulfilled His promise. The seed came after their revelation of Jehovah El-Shaddai: The Supplier, the Nourisher, the All-Sufficient One, gave Abraham and Sarah their child of promise.

4. Adonai: My Lord, My Master (Genesis 18:3)

Bowing himself to the ground, Abraham calls out "My Lord," which in Hebrew translates as Adonai, or "Master". Being addressed as "Master" implies that He is in complete ownership and control. God reveals His will to those who know Him as Adonai. When Abraham addressed God as Adonai, he was actually saying "You're my Lord," and God rewarded him with a deeper and more intimate relationship. Great intercessors are born in intimate fellowship with God. As Abraham drew near, he experienced intimacy with God Almighty and became an intercessor on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah.

5. Jehovah Jireh: My Provider (Genesis 22:8)

God's promise to Abraham is fulfilled with the birth of Isaac, and then He tested Abraham's faith. "Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell the of." After traveling for three days, they finally saw the land of Moriah. As they walked along, Isaac inquired "My father, we have the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" Because Abraham knew God so intimately, he responded (through faith) that "God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering". In this name, Abraham identifies God as being his Provider; Jehovah Jireh.

6. Jehovah Rophe: My Healer (Exodus 15:26)

To know God so intimately as your Jehovah Rophe, your personal Healer, you must first know Him as your God, your Father, your Supplier, your Master and Lord, and your Provider. When you see the Lamb as your Provider, healing will come. While the sinner may receive healing because of grace, the believer receives healing because of the covenant relationship that comes about through the revelation of Who God Is. To receive your healing, no matter where you are in your relationship with God, submit yourself and your will to Him and to His Will, take communion (after examining your heart regarding any unconfessed sin) and clease your body with the Blood of Jesus on a daily basis until you see manifestation of His promise, by thanking the Lord for your "daily" bread, as you partake of His body, it will come.

7. Jehovah Nissi: My Victory (Exodus 17:15)

In this revelation of God's name, as Jehovah Nissi (My Victory), we see God's power displayed and how He brings victory in defense of His people. Here, Moses told Joshua to organize the Israelites for battle. While Moses stood atop the mountain praying to God for victory, the Bible tells us that as long as Moses lifted up his hands in prayer, Israel prevailed in the battle; but when he grew tired and let down his hands, the battle would swing in Amalek's favor. We need to learn from this and stand steady and firm through continuous prayer through all of our life's battles, so the Lord can be enabled to fight our battles for us.

8. Jehovah M'Kaddesh: My Sanctifier (Leviticuss 20:7-8)

9. Jehovah Shalom: My Peace (Judges 6:24)

10. Jehovah Tsidkenou: My Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:5-6)

11. Jehovah Rohi: My Shepherd (Psalm 23)

12. Jehovah Shammah: The Lord is There (Ezekiel 48.35)

13. Jesus Christ of Nazareth - Jesus IS God

Whether you feel comfortable in using these names, or the meanings of these names, the importance is our being aware of Who He Is (and wants to be for each of us) can bring us closer to Him in our prayer life. For example, we can call out to Him as Jehova Rophe, or thank Him for being our Healer, it's entirely up to you. You may choose to memorize each of His names, and use them in prayer, or you may not be able to remember which name means what, and choose to call Him your Healer, your comforter, Your provider, etc., the list never ends as we continue to grow with awareness of Who He Is to each of us.
